Drama  Rose Fowler

In Drama your children will study improvisation, comedy skills, script-writing, mime, verse, TV, film and theatre acting.  Rose had an early fascination for performing and joined the Grand Youth Theatre Group when she was a youngster.  She went on to achieve an A in Theatre Studies at A level and Grade 8 Distinction in the Acting LAMDA examination.  She is currently in her final year at The Arden School of Theatre, where various opportunities have arisen including an ensemble ‘Spooky Tour’ at the National Trust’s Styal Mill. Rose was also part of a small group of people who travelled to Sweden to work with groups of children from Lithuania, Bulgaria, Sweden and Latvia:  the group produced a piece of street theatre created to promote environmental and political awareness which was performed over two days in Stockholm City Centre.
“I am passionate about all areas of acting and design challenging lessons that are packed with fun.  I hope to share my experience and knowledge with each child, encouraging their creativity and building a level of confidence that will accompany them along whatever path they take in life.”

Dance    Rachel James

Rachel graduated from The Arden School of Theatre with BA Honours Degree in Musical Theatre.
She started dancing at the age of three and has a great deal of teaching experience with children and young adults of all ages.  She is currently teaching on the BTEC Dance and Foundation Degree at a local college. Rachel has lots of experience with choreography, working in primary and secondary schools, colleges and dance schools.  She teaches Modern, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Contemporary, Street, Ballet, Tap, Ballroom and Latin dancing.

“I really enjoy teaching dance and feel that I have the ability to encourage each child to achieve their best in dance lessons. I design stimulating, imaginative routines and bring motivation and energy to all my classes. I strive to develop performance technique, imagination and confidence in each individual.

Drama  Kirtsy Tatler

Kirsty achieved a Diploma in Musical Theatre with Honours from the London College of Music and recently graduated from The Arden School of Theatre in Manchester with a BA Honours Degree in Musical Theatre.
Music has been Kirsty’s passion throughout her life: she attended The Royal Northern College of Music Junior School between the ages of 10 to 14; specialising in Vocals, Piano, Theory and Harmony skills and was a soloist in The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s Junior Choir.
In 2010, Kirsty auditioned for B.B.C’s Show “Over the Rainbow” and succeeded in progressing to the final 50 at “Dorothy Farm.”
Kirsty has been teaching Piano for four years now.  Many of her pupils have taken Associated Board examinations and she thoroughly enjoys passing on her knowledge. This Summer Kirsty taught singing to Year 6 students at a primary school for their Annual Arts Festival.
Kirsty recognises that these experiences have greatly improved her knowledge of music and her performance techniques:  she hopes to encourage and motivate each student to improve their own performance and enjoyment of singing and to follow their aspirations.

“I am thrilled to be joining Footlights and hope to encourage and motivate every student to enjoy singing as much as I have!

Tiny's (3- 6 yr olds)

9.15 - 11am         (3 - 4yr olds)
11.30 - 1pm         (4 - 6yr olds)

Rachel is currently in her third year at The Arden School of Theatre. She decided she wanted to be an Actor when she was eleven years old!  She has worked in Youth Theatre for the last eight years and has performed and directed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe on six occasions. Having lived in the USA for a year, teaching drama to Young Adults with severe disabilities, Rachel has a lot of experience to draw on when it comes to introducing children to the world of drama.

In the Tiny’s class your 4-6 year olds will be introduced to theatre and performing in a safe, fun, energy-driven yet structured way of learning.  They will be encouraged to explore Dance, Singing and Drama in bite size chunks of 20 - 25 minutes.  They have a little break in the middle for a snack and a drink, which the children seem to enjoy as much as the classes; it’s their chance to explore creatively with each other, identify with their peers and have a good old chit chat!  Under the close supervision of Rachel, your little ones are encouraged to be individual and express themselves freely in a supportive forum, learning social skills and building confidence that will help the transition into Primary School.

Tutors

The tutors at Footlights spend quality time getting to know the children and plan their sessions according to abilities, learning styles and what each particular group seem to enjoy.  Confident in their teaching, our tutors aim to let the children perform as often as possible, usually all sharing equal roles to promote teamwork and a sense of camaraderie from a young age. The Tiny’s are always part of the main school shows at Christmas and during the Summer, so you will regularly see your child perform.

Facilities

We are set in the secluded grounds of Lane End School in Cheadle Hulme village.

History

We started in Stretford in very humble beginnings at Stretford Grammar school in 2004. We soon built up an excellent reputation and moved to better facilities and more room to Lostock Arts College. We are currently in our 5th Year at Lostock Arts College, with a roll of over 70 children. We try not to turn anyone away, however places are limited so we urge you to get in touch as soon as possible. We have had massive successes over the past 4 years producing some fantastic performances at festivals, theatres, as well as charity events and many of our students have also appeared on screen too. The right honourable Beverley Hughes (recent Minister for Children) commended us in the House of Commons for our work with special needs children.

Achievements

We have had so many great experiences over the past years, with many of our children appearing on tv , some have even appeared in film, one child even got to star with Johny Vegas!  Our successes are many and we do strive to keep everyone updated in our latest new section, however the best way to get a full view on the school is to subscribe to our FREE newsletter. In July 2009 about 200 of our children and young people performed at the renowned 'Lowry Theatre' where they raised  £750 for a local cancer charity.  We also achieved 100% pass rate in our first year entering the prestigious LAMDA examinations, where one of our groups Footlights 1 (aged 6-8yr olds) all received Distinctions in musical theatre.

Directions

From Cheadle Hulme Village, you will pass Cheadle Hulme train station on your left, look out for a church and 'Daisy' florist then take your next left  onto Ramillies Avenue. The school is at the end of the avenue on the right.

From Bramhall direction once you are on Station road, take the 3rd right onto Ramillies Avenue. The school is at the end of the avenue on the right.
